Lake Ohau Lodge (Twizel)

Price from £129 per room per night

This small family run business incorporating both the Lake Ohau Lodge (72 rooms) and Ohau Snow Fields has been operated by Mike and Louise Neilson since the mid 1980's. They have a passion for this outstandingly beautiful, yet stark landscape and a strong desire to see it's special environment preserved.

Lake Ohau Lodge is a great place not only to stay, but to base yourself so you can enjoy all the activities the region has on offer.

Hotel Facilities

The restaurant at Lake Ohau Lodge has a reputation for outstanding food, great service and warm, welcoming atmosphere.

Our cosy restaurant features an open fire, big windows with lake views, a bar and lovely big tables. Guests are often invited to sit together which often is one of the highlights of your time there.

Upper South Temple Wing

The Upper South Temple Wing offers stunning luxury double studio rooms with the best views of Mount Cook and Lake Ohau.  Simply styled with original art, the rooms have one very comfortable queen size flexible slat bed with a luxurious mattress topper, electric blanket and extra rug.   There are comfortable Scandinavian armchairs to relax in, a desk and a stool. The sliding doors open to decking where you can take your directors chair and sit on a nice day.  The ensuite bathrooms are spacious with a shower over the bath, heated towel rails, makeup mirror and hairdryers. The rooms are centrally heated and there is a selection of teas, plunger coffee, a fridge and hot water bottles.

Temple Wing

In the Temple Wing the spacious studio rooms have a queen size flexible slat bed and single bed/or bunk, with good views over the lake to surrounding mountains.  All rooms have an ensuite bathroom with bath, heated towel rails, hair dryers.  The rooms have underfloor heating as well as tea and coffee making facilities, a fridge and hot water bottles. Drive to your door for easy unpacking!

The family rooms in this wing with queen and bunk bed are the best value and most suitable rooms for families as they have extra beds for children and we are happy to put a rollaway in for a 3rd child.

Maitland Wing

The Maitland Wing rooms are smaller, character rooms, a bit cheaper and the 12 on the North side have lake and mountain views.  The flexible slat beds have electric blankets and there are extra blankets in the drawers.  The bathrooms have a shower over the bath, heated towel rails and teak oiled floor boards.  Choose from double, twin and triple (bunk and single bed) rooms with underfloor heating, all with ensuites with bath and tea and coffee making facilities, no fridge.

Huxley Wing

Detached from the main lodge building, the Huxley Wing is our more budget accommodation comprising of 5 rooms that have 2 single beds (which can be joined to make a king bed) and 5 quad rooms with 2 sets of bunk beds. The rooms do not have tea or coffee making, nor do they have a fridge. The rooms are quite small but through a large glass sliding door you have a view over a grassy area to glimpses of the lake.  The ensuite bathrooms are generously sized with shower and heated towel rails and the rooms are warm in winter.  There is parking just outside.

Hopkins Wing

This is the original wing of the Lodge from 1951! All rooms have two single beds with hand basin and the shared facilities are at the end of the hallway. All linen and towels are supplied, there is a heater in each room and hot water bottles that can be filled from the kitchen. It is important to note that these rooms can be quite noisy as they are right beside the bar.
