Operated by Abel Tasman Kayaks. To begin, board an Aqua Taxi for the journey north to Awaroa. Disembark, then head south around the sculpted granite headlands of Abel Head to Shag Harbour (tides permitting), a hidden inlet like no other. Participants then paddle south focusing on the Tonga Island Marine Reserve and the New Zealand Fur Seal colonies. Contrasts abound as you paddle by rock sculptures and peaceful lagoons to the final destination at Bark Bay Beach. Your guide has stories of Maori and European settlers, and the natural history of this picturesque area. Return to Marahau by Aqua Taxi. Showcases of the tour include the Northern coast, Awaroa, a Seal Colony and habitat, Blue Penguins, granite headlands, Maori stories and legends.
