Board your Myths And Legends Eco-Tours launch Tutanekai at Waikawa Bay Wooden Wharf at the end of the foreshores to commence a full day Captain Cook's Cruise. Cruise to the outer reaches of the Sounds. Look for dolphins, seals, birdlife and little Blue Penguins before watching the frenzied feeding of the Blue Cod in the Marine reserve at Resolution Bay. Enjoy a picnic lunch at beautiful Ship Cove, the bay that Captain Cook referred to as his most favourite anchorage in the South Seas. Hear the untold stories handed down from Maori who lived here and traded with Cook and his men, while your guide relays the uncut version of the history of Captain Cook.
Next stop Motuara Island Bird Sanctuary, home to some of NZ's most endangered species, Saddle backs, South Island Robins, Kakariki, ( NZ parrot, ) Kereru, ( wood pigeon, ) and Korimako ( the little birds with the beautiful song the Bell birds ) and view the little blue penguins in their nesting boxes, smallest in the world. On the way home your guide will give you an overview of the effects that European colonization had on the Maori culture and the state of race relations in NZ, along with lots of other interesting stories, this is a very educational experience.
