The lodge is set on 29 acres, which includes eight acres of gardens that were developed to complement the Georgian style lodge. There is a man-made lake, an English garden, rose gardens, an Awanui cherry blossom lawn and a croquet lawn. There is also a small plantation of pines on the north/east boundary and Polled Angus beef cattle graze the balance of the land.

Hotel Facilities

Guest services and facilities include a guest library with a collection of NZ literature and tour information, a heated indoor swimming pool and spa, a piano, central heating plus gas fires in the lounge, dining room and bar and two bicycles and helmets for hire.

Room Facilities

The Kiwi Room and the Tui Room both look over to the gardens, lake and hills to the east. The Weka Room has its own gas fire and views over the gardens to the west and the foothills of Maungatautari Mountain to the south. Each has its own ensuite with shower. The Takahe Room has stunning views over the rose garden and across to the lake to the north and the cherry blossom walk to the east. it has a large ensuite and fittings for wheelchair access. The Kotuku Room is very large and spacious, with a fitted wardrobe and luxurious bathroom with a bath, shower, bidet and two handbasins. A window seat and two private balconies overlook the gardens providing comfort,  privacy and a very relaxing environment. The Kereru Room is a large and lovely room with windows on three sides that overlook lovely views. Its size enables it to be a "gathering space" with a lounge area, dining area and large television.
