This is New Zealand's only narrow-gauge mountain railway and is combined with a working pottery and wildlife sanctuary.
The innovatively designed trains travel through replanted native kauri forest and along a track that includes spirals, tunnels and viaducts as it climbs up to the mountain-top terminus, which offers great panoramic views out over the island-studded Hauraki Gulf, with the forested valley and mountains behind.
